One can go from a single place to another in around 3 hours and everything changes. The trees, the animals, the temperature the people the surroundings etc. on the coast in Colombo it is around 30 degrees Celsius average and up in the hills in Nuwara Eliya it drops to around 10 – 15 degrees Celsius. 

It depends on you on how much Sri Lanka costs. Food is very cheap if you eat at the right places. Accommodation in small guest houses or hotels is very pocket friendly. Also, even if you choose high end luxury hotels and villas then Sri Lanka offers a lot for your money.

The palm trees and beaches are unexpectedly so lush and green.

When it comes to transportation then I must say it comes in incredibly good value. You can easily get around by bus, train, tuk-tuk, motorbike, taxi or Uber. 

You’ll have to take your socks and shoes off before visiting temples, even if they are outdoors, so bring flip-flops to keep your socks clean.
